"Look at our history and look to our hearts
to know that the smallest measure of humanity
is the dignity that we afford one another. Nowhere
is that dignity more easily measured than in the care
we give to others " Michele V. Sare, MSN, RN - Author,
Trainer, Speaker and Founder & CEO of
Nurses for Nurses International

Book Summary

7 seconds - 350,000 lives lost - hundreds
of thousands injured. The epicenter:
Leogane, Haiti. I was there with my
Haitian friends and fellow nurses.
Together we would care for thousands in the
dark heart of the Jan 12, 2010 quake.
Where outside aid did not arrive for
six terrible long days. We are nurses.

About the Author

Across a 36 year career as an RN - working in six states and five countries - Michele Sare is a nurse, an educator, author, speaker and an activist who believes that the world's 15 million nurses have the power to heal the world.

What Leaders are Saying

"Nurses have a long history of stepping in to a crisis and making things right.  "Today, Léogâne" is a current day story, set in a 3rd world environment made horrifically worse by the record setting earthquake in 2010.  Sare tells her story of arriving in Haiti just before the quake hit and then going with fellow Haitian nurses, into the heart of the quake zone and saving thousands of lives in the six days before any outside help arrived.  It is an amazing story, written by a nurse, with incredible passion for the job she loves and honoring the beautiful people of Haiti, she came to help.  When the quake hit, she could have turned around and fled back to the states with other Americans, but she put her life on the line and became a much needed leader in this fight for survival, teaching local nursing students to apply their skills, while caring for severely injured Haitians.  Local doctors came and went but the nurses worked on without reprieve, saving so many lives with minimal supplies.  A must read for nurses everywhere.  This is what nursing is about and we will all wonder if we could have risen to the challenge dropped in her lap.  From the minute I picked it up, I couldn't stop until the end."
